Search for missing Hill County man continues

Posted Friday, Apr. 30, 2010
A former Haltom City man who retired in rural Hill County was still missing Friday, nearly one week after he was seen leaving home in his pickup.

Richard Gary Parker, 76, a retired Lockheed employee, was last seen April 24 leaving his home southwest of Aquilla Lake.

He reportedly has dementia, diabetes, and high blood pressure, according to his family.

Hill County Sheriff’s deputies, game wardens and dozens of volunteers have combed the county looking for Parker or his pickup, a silver/gray 2004 Dodge.

“We’re actually out here again,” Capt. Larry Armstrong of the sheriff’s office said Friday afternoon. “We haven’t found any sign of him yet.”

Armstrong was reached on his cell phone as he joined deputies searching on Farm Road 933. Parker’s home is near the intersection of Farm Roads 933 and 310, southwest of Aquilla Lake.

A “Silver Alert” was issued for Parker, but it has since expired, according to protocol.

However, a helicopter from the Texas Department of Public Safety office in Waco has searched by air, Armstrong said.

Other flights, he added, were flown by a local member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Meanwhile, he said, deputies sent missing-person advisories to police in White Settlement, where Parker spent his youth and Haltom City, where he raised his family.

“We got them to check, too,” Armstrong said. “Nothing.”

Parker’s family members said they he may have wandered back to places where he used to live.

But, granddaughter Brenna Francis of Dallas said, “In his state of mind we realize he may be anywhere.”

Along with dementia, he takes medication for Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, Francis said.

Parker and his wife, Shirley, have four adult children, said his cousin, Jeannie Anderson of Fort Worth.

Called “Pawpaw” by his family, Parker is 6-feet-4-inches tall and 210 pounds.

He was last seen wearing a short-sleeve plaid shirt, dark blue jeans, black tennis shoes and metal-framed glasses, according to his family.

His four-door pickup has the license plate number 60V-NX2.

Anyone with information about Parker can call sheriff’s deputies at 254-582-5313 .
